Trevor Wright Continues to Grow... both on and off the track

At the age of 15, the excitement about sitting behind the steering wheel of car is just beginning.
The countdown to driving begins. For Trevor Wright though, being in the driver’s seat is just another day at the office. The only difference for him is that he gets to drive faster than any driving instructor would allow.
In 2017, Trevor completed his first full season in the very competitive DIRTcar Sportsman division at Merrittville Speedway. Racing against some of the toughest veterans in the region, he collected one heat win and five top ten feature finishes enroute to an impressive ninth place position in the final point standings.

Beamsville, Ont. – August 17th, 2017 – Although the racing season is winding down, Trevor Wright is continuing to climb to new heights.
The 15 year old has shown great progress and promise in his first full season in the DIRTcar Sportsman division at Merrittville Speedway.

Charlie Lynch and Chris Bellamy took the field to the green flag before Trevor Wright became the new leader on lap 2.
Caution on lap 6 would have the sophomore driver Wright and veteran Jay Mallory on the front row and side by side until Mallory took control on lap 7. Begolo would soon challenge Wright for second.

Big Night for 3 First Time Winners at Merrittville

Tim Jones of Port Robinson won his first Pinty’s Delicious Foods 358 Modified Feature of the season. Also collecting their first wins in the Yager Bros Trucking Novice Sportsman Division were Justin McKay of North Tonawanda NY and Trevor Wright of Grimsby.
“The track was a little slick during the second feature,” said the recent Grade 8 Graduate Wright who won the 10 lap Novice Sportsman Feature, “I’m getting more and more confident every race – thanks to my mom and dad all my sponsors.”
Wright led the entire distance while Justin McKay won the 10 lap Novice Sportsman Feature earlier in the night that was delayed from June 18th

Karting’s appeal doesn’t necessarily end when drivers move up. On Tuesday, Wright sandwiched racing between his Grade 8 graduation ceremony at Twenty Valley School and the graduation dance afterwards.
That required the 14-year-old to be a quick-change artist as well as a fast driver.
“We’re laughing because he went from one suit to the other,” Heather Wright, his mother and pit crew member, said.

Giving signed pictures of himself to fans was a new experience for Trevor Wright, 14, of Smithville, but it won’t be the last for the current points leader in novice sportsman, Merrittville’s newest racing division.
“I’ll take one of these. It’s going to be worth money some day,” Scott Andres, a season ticket holder from Vineland, said as he accepted a card from Wright.

This year Merrittville Speedway added the Novice Sportsman class to their lineup and one name in particular has stood out. Trevor Wright moved up from the karting program and the kid has showed some real talent. With only a few weeks behind the wheel of his new ride, he is already racing against some great veterans in the field, and has elected every Saturday night to race with the big guns in the Yager Brothers Trucking Sportsman division.
Two 14 years olds debut in faster racing classes at Merrittville Speedway

Youth was served Saturday when three graduates of Merrittville Speedway’s karting program made their debuts in higher racing classes.
Trevor Wright, 14, of Beamsville finished second in the Thorold track’s first-ever novice sportsman feature, while Tyler Winger, 18, of Ridgeway and Ryleigh Sliter, 14, of Port Colborne placed 10th and 13th, respectively, in the main event in the mod lite division

New Challenge in 2016 for Trevor Wright

Although small in stature, Trevor Wright has big goals set for his racing that one day he might like to have as his career.
Turning 14 in February, the Beamsville Teen is looking forward to taking his racing up a level after purchasing the former Austin Wood #38 to join the Sportsman Division in 2016.
“I really love a challenge,” said Trevor of his ambitious plans, “I believe to really grow as a person and as a driver … I need to leave my comfort zone.”
